Varun

I am a Seattle resident and real estate investor. In 2022, after spending nearly a decade at leading e-commerce companies, I decided to move into real estate full-time. 


I started my investor journey when I started renting my condo in Belltown when I moved out in 2016. We moved to a starter home in Green Lake for 4 years. In 2020, we moved again and I was able to rent the starter home when I moved out. In 2021, I completed a 1031 exchange for my condo and bought a SFR rental in Magnolia without needing to bring additional funds to the closing table. Through the 1031 exchange, I moved 260k of equity into my Magnolia rental. In 2022, I sold my starter home in Green Lake for 440K of tax free profit because it was classified as a primary residence as per the IRS definition. This was the starting point of my journey as a full-time real estate investor. In June 2023 I bought a 3300 sq ft home in North Seattle (Haller Lake) on a 0.41 acre lot. I sub-divided the land into a 9700 sq.ft. lot with the house and garage (700 sq.ft.) on it and a 7900 sq.ft. lot without any existing structures (future development potential). The plan is to demo the garage and add a DADU (construction starting on 8/22) and AADU to the existing house. I am hoping to build 4-6 units on the 7900 sq.ft. lot once the new laws are adopted by Seattle.
